If you do need to speak with a doctor over the phone, then a message can be taken by our reception staff who would pass your message on to the doctor, since we get a lot of frivolous phone calls, it is very essential that you leave the reason for the doctor to call otherwise we cannot guarantee that the doctors will call you back as we do not know what the concern behind the callback requested. Otherwise most phone calls are returned only at the end of a day after consulting hours.
Although some of our doctors may occasionally chose to contact you through email, and if there is a need to send something by email, please contact our reception staff before sending any emails, as we do not routinely use email as a form of communication, if you would like to send an email to your practitioner, please do so by addressing it to admin@cornerstonemedicalcentre.com.au.
To minimise delays we ask that you include the name of the intended recipient in the subject of the email. Reading and writing emails is extremely time consuming so please do try and refrain from communicating with your doctor via email unless otherwise advised, as we will not be able to guaranteedly respond every email received.

Why have we changed our Billing Policy?

The reason you are here is, you may want to know why have we had to take the step of changing our Billing Policy from a Bulk Billing Policy to a Mixed Billing Policy, and we feel responsible to answer the question in your mind which rightfully why we have written our concerns for doing the same here, please continue to read.

The Federal Government has announced it will not be indexing the Medicare Schedule fees this year and will be continuing the freeze at least until 2020, which means that your GP has had an increase of $0.75 (75 cents) for a standard consult since November 2012.

As it stands today the rebates being provided by Medicare do not practically cover the full costs of continuing to provide you with the high quality medical care you have now got accustomed to us providing you with. The reason behind this is the rate at which successive governments have indexed the Medicare Schedule fees has been substantially lower than increases in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and average weekly earnings.

The impact of this has been high as the costs of the other clinical staff, administration staff, the medical equipment’s, medical consumables, practice stationary, practice maintenance all have not been frozen but continue to steeply increase and in-turn burden the practice which until now was able to continue providing you the service with the bulk billing policy but since we are unable to control the costs to these we have had to think long and hard before taking the step towards the mixed billing policy.

The reality is that Medicare rebates do not cover our costs of providing you with a safe and high quality service, we believe the fees charged by this practice should cover all our practice costs including employing administration staff and other clinical staff, and meeting our operating expenses such as lease, maintenance, medical equipment, electricity, computers and insurance.

We have tried limiting the increase in fees to only affect a select number of items (services we provide, the fees for up to 75% of the services we provide will remain unaffected by the increase). The fees at Cornerstone Medical Centre have been determined by a combination of various factors and recommendations as provided by the Australian Medical Association recommended rates and costs associated with running a medical practice.

It has not been possible for this practice to meet the running costs each year without increasing our fees. The Medicare rebate freeze means that this practice is no longer able to bulk bill all our patients.

Our billing policy stands to be changed from 6th March 2017, we will be charging you the following fees as mentioned in our fees section here OUR FEES

The rebates would be paid directly into your account or card. Please update your account details with Medicare. Please contact your private health insurance for gap fees. If you have any extenuating circumstances, please discuss these with the medical practitioner treating you.

If you wish to let the Government know that the Medicare rebate is insufficient to assist you in meeting the cost of your medical care, please contact your local Member of Parliament at

and / or the Minister for Health:

Why do I need to have a Regular Local Doctor (GP)?

The question most of us generally are faced with is why do I have to always go to the same GP or doctor for all my healthcare issues. There are many reasons to this question and this leaves us with the our own judgement of the reasons behind this question. We have tried to put a reason behind this question and in no way is a binding on any person's views about the same question, we will try to answer this question in simplest possible way.

Having a regular doctor is important, why because this will help us have a very open communication with someone who will get to know us better, know our healthcare problems better, and follow up with us to ensure we are being treated correctly. This with time will build into a relationship of trust, understanding, mutual knowledge about healthcare issues we may face.

Having a regular doctor does not mean we should not explore options with other doctor's it is always advised to have a second opinion with another doctor if you are having any doubts or concerns with the advice being given. But then if you are happy with the advice being given and the treatment you are being made to follow it is best advised to follow up with the same doctor this will save you the time of repeating information about your medical history, previous medications you have been taking, your allergies or other medical conditions which could be important for a doctor to know when treating you.

It is very important that you understand that your doctor is not a Specialist in a particular field like a cardiologist who would best know about the heart or the related information needed for the heart, but they are General Practitioners who are very generalist in the knowledge they acquire they are in a position where they can give you advice about many medical conditions which could be physical conditions or mentally conditions. They with time know about you know about problems you have been facing and can give you the best advice on the treatments you may need or if needed they will be able to refer you to the right specialists for further treatment about your conditions.

Being Healthy is not about going to the doctor only if you find recently noticed a difference in a certain body part or are facing an issue with something you may not be sure of as to why it is happening. This is where your regular doctor plays a very important role they not only keep you healthy but monitor your health over time to ensure that you always are healthy.

Your regular doctor is well placed to advise you about means of preventing illnesses from happening, help you in taking right, sensible and preventative measures in ensuring that you can lead a healthy and well balanced life. The doctor when treating you will be able to take into consideration a number of factors such as the local area, the environment locally, the support you maybe able to receive locally if any problem arises, the surrounding areas, the climatic conditions, the known illnesses and in doing so will be prepared to offer you the right preventative vaccinations and treatments which could be required.
